One of my favorite draft sites Big League Futures just put up some preliminary rankings.
It will all change! But I like to glance at it and dream a little:
Top 5 Starters, College
He doesn't even list Brandon Finnegan! This is a deep class.
Top 5 HS Lefties/Righties
I agree with Kevin here, the guy I like best is Dylan Cease. Incidentally, Kevin was a very enthusiastic knowledgeable poster, he eventually got an invite to join the staff. Now I like all those lefties, but a righty like Sean Reid-Foley would be pretty exciting as well. Fastball up to 94. There are a ton of guys with high velocity this year. Pretty exciting stuff.
BLF Top 50
So if the Giants pick around 10, they'd also pick around 45 give or take. Lets say one of the two of Pence or Timmy leaves, that'd give them a mid 30s pick to boot. Lets be conservative and say its 35. So 10, 35 and 45. Just eyeballing around that area of the rankings gives us something like...
Tyler Beede or Brandon Finnegan as a college pitcher who might zoom at 10.
Kodi Medeirios? Slam dunk for me. Alex Verdugo is a 2-way guy, not sold, but Stone Garrett looks awesome (Klima has a profile on him), this is the 35 spot.
45 spot - Justus Sheffield will demand huge bonus money. The Giants will have more moneys for once. That'd be a faller. What about a riser? Grant Hockin? Hell yeah Hockin is Killebrew's grandson. He seemed no nonsense, low effort during the UnderArmour game.
Seems like this draft is pretty deep for sure, looking at all these arms. There are also some very interesting bats. We'll just have to see what happens with these QOs, then the Giants have a budget. One of the big reasons the QO kills value is teams don't want to give up the draft pool money that accompanies the first round pick.
